Designed around the existing building, the proposal aims to offer 17 residential units and preserve the historical significance of the site.
The existing front building on site was built in the 19th Century and is considered having a hugely positive contribution to the street scene. As the design approach, minimal changes are made to the existing front building whilst all proposed extensions and new apartment block are set back from the front to retain similar street scene.
New apartment block at the rear of the site is designed in a staggered manner to breakdown massing; Languages such as arched windows and yellow stock bricks are used throughout the scheme to complement the existing building, alongside with elements such as green roofs to increase urban greening.
The design is a sensitive response to its context and aims to achieve complementary additions that are well adapted to the existing site.
