The site is located in the North-East of the Borough of Haringey, and it comprises 2 three-storey brick facing buildings of which the current use is a residential accommodation. The scheme aims to maximise the potential of the site providing additional 9 residential units.
The roof extensions, erected following the footprint of the host buildings, are sensitively designed to a modest scale and serve to create good size and well laid-out flats to meet the huge housing demand in the area. These extensions will replicate the shape of the existing pitched roofs, instead of flat roof extensions, and will add architectural value and character to the internal spaces as the pitched roofs will be expressed internally as generously scaled sloping ceilings.
The proposal is conceived as a contemporary roof extensions with clean lines to be cladded mainly in red standing seam zinc cladding that will complement the design, materials and appearance of the existing buildings. All the flats will be provided with a “wrap around” window/rooflight where most of them will be located within the open plan spaces to provide more natural daylight in and enrich the spaces.
The thoughtfully designed envelope with carefully selected high-quality materials will be adding considerable townscape and architectural merit to the surrounding area.
