Our design concept is a simple one. We would like to infiltrate the existing deep-plan organisation of spaces and rooms with a natural daylight strategy and to employ daylight as the tool to craft and shape the existing spaces and to provide a simple and easy way-finding strategy when traversing through the various rooms and spaces in the Crematorium. This daylighting strategy brings one through a series of well-landscaped and sound-crafted Cloisters, before culminating in the new Chapel building. The chapel provides a peaceful and serene backdrop to the main Cloisters, opening onto a calm and beautiful reflection pool. The Chapel and linking colonnades then appear to be semi-floating above the reflection pool. A linear waterfall provides comforting psychological relief within the larger Cloisters.
